Off to the McAlpine

In fact there were just two other balls left in the drum once ours finally appeared in a draw where half the teams had been pre-drawn.

With the Clarets seeded there was never any chance of a money spinning draw and having failed to secure a home time at least it is a fairly short trip to make.

This will be the first time the two clubs have met in the League Cup and in fact it is 31 years since we played them in the FA Cup when we were beaten 1-0 at the Turf in the 3rd round of 1971/72.

Our last major cup win against Huddersfield was in 1963/64 and a 3-0 5th round victory in the FA Cup with goals from Ray Pointer, Andy Lochhead and an own goal.

The game will be played week commencing 30th September with Tuesday 1st October the most likely.

The full draw is:

Stockport County v Gillingham
Crystal Palace v Cheltenham Town
Leyton Orient v Birmingham City
Cambridge United v Sunderland
Ipswich Town v Brighton and Hove Albion
Sheffield United v Wycombe Wanderers
Wrexham v Everton
Rotherham United v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Chesterfield v West Ham United
Charlton Athletic v Oxford United
Tottenham Hotspur v Cardiff City
Aston Villa v Luton Town
Sheffield Wednesday v Leicester City
Wigan Athletic v West Bromwich Albion
Coventry City v Rushden & Diamonds
Bolton Wanderers v Bury
Southampton v Tranmere Rovers
Brentford v Middlesbrough
Portsmouth v Franchise
Nottingham Forest v Walsall
Manchester City v Crewe Alexandra
Huddersfield Town v Burnley
Derby County v Oldham Athletic
Macclesfield Town v Preston North End

Note: The game between Ipswich and Brighton will be played w/c 23rd September, one week before the other ties.
