Off to Bamber Bridge

In the last three years we have played this particular fixture at Deepdale, but four years ago it was played at Lancaster's Giant Axe on a night when a win would have seen us win the league.

Stan Ternent fielded half the first team and it was an awful performance from a team that included Graham Branch, Steve Davis, Lenny Johnrose, Glen Little, Tony Grant, Gareth Taylor and Robbie Blake. We lost it 2-0 and conceded the title to Preston whilst the lads who had done so well to get us to the top, players such as Damo Hindle, Earl Davis and Matt O'Neill had to sit and watch their title hopes go down the pan.

It was the last match of the season and that had been the case a year earlier when it was played at tonight's venue at Bamber Bridge. That night we drew 1-1 having led with a goal from John Williamson.

The game turned on a ridiculous decision to send off goalkeeper James Salisbury, and Preston equalised from the subsequent penalty.

We'll have team news later from Burnley but we can confirm that Preston will be fielding a side as young as the one we turned out at Shrewsbury on Monday.
