Nothing's happened

Steve Caldwell - nothing's happened
It was last Thursday that the club revealed talks had been held with RK Sunderland captain Steve Caldwell, and that the player had gone back to think over the offer. Since then it has been confirmed that he's also had talks with Coventry City, although the latest speculation from the North East is that he might defy manager Roy Keane and see his contract out until the summer.

Having played Premiership football for them last season it is a safe bet that he's earning more than either Burnley or Coventry were offering, leaving him with a decision to make, but I think most expected there would be news by today of whether he would be staying or going and if going where he might be going.

Nothing's happened there – so now over to John Spicer who was spending the weekend contemplating a one month loan move to Dario G's place. The Crewe boss remembered him well enough last week, could recall that Spicer had scored twice against Crewe last season in our 3-0 win over them at the Turf. Today he was claiming to know nothing about him, but had been told he would get a place in the Crewe team.

By not signing on Friday he missed their 4-0 home defeat against Crewe, but Dario G is keen to get him signed up in time for him to play in their Paint Pot Trophy game at home against Doncaster tomorrow night.

Nothing's happened there either – and nothing's happened regarding transfer listed goalkeeper Brian Jensen. The ‘Beast' asked for a move after being left out of the side at Southampton, and on Saturday he found himself out of the squad completely with loan signing Mike Pollitt playing in goal and fit again Danny Coyne on the bench.

Manager Steve Cotterill said today there had been no enquiries at all for the Danish keeper who will be hoping now that a club moves in during the next two days. He's still a year and a half of his contract to run at Burnley.

So that's it, and despite wild rumours circulating during the day we have not signed anyone else, nor has anyone left, basically nothing's happened. And we haven't fixed the Cricket Field Stand either.
