North End at the Turf in the COCUP

Last updated : 08 August 2013 By Tony Scholes

Preston beat local rivals Blackpool 1-0 at Deepdale on Monday with a late Tom Clarke goal and the Clarets secured their place with that 4-0 win against York at Bootham Crescent 24 hours later.

Burnley and Preston are hardly regular opponents in the major cup competitions. Despite our long histories we've never yet met in the FA Cup and this will be just our second meeting in the League Cup competition.

The previous occasion we played them was in the first round in the 1993/94 season. It was a two legged affair then and we won the tie 6-2 on aggregate.

We fell behind in the first leg at Deepdale before a David Eyres penalty, his first Burnley goal, and Steve Davis scored to ensure a 2-1 win.  The second leg was an easier affair with Kevin Russell, Eyres, John Francis and John Deary all scoring in a 4-1 win.

This season's tie will be played in week commencing 26th August, with Tuesday 27th the most likely date.
