Shortly afterwards though it was revealed that Marlon hadn’t actually signed the contract and it was beginning to look similar to the situation with him at Burnley last season.

We can now reveal that York have decided against signing the former Burnley goalkeeper following the results of his medical examination.

No details have been given by either club or player but York stated that after stringent tests and following medical advice they have decided not to offer Marlon a contract.

Player boss and former Claret Chris Brass said of the situation,

When doing a player's medical examination we expect certain criteria to be satisfied. With such a small squad we have to be absolutely sure and unfortunately Marlon has not met our criteria.

"It may be only a temporary problem but we need players fit from the off."

Marlon was hoping to line up for York tonight in a pre-season friendly against Sunderland, that will not be the case now and former Grimsby keeper Steve Croudson will be given the chance to impress.
