No move for Johnny Mac

McGreal had to take a back seat as the season got underway, with new captain Wayne Thomas and Northern Ireland international Michael Duff getting the nod for the two central defensive berths.

Going into the third and last year of his contract, it meant he was on the bench for the opening games and then even dropped out altogether when we faced Wolves at the Turf a week last Saturday and then again when Hartlepool beat us in the Carling Cup.

New Ipswich boss Jim Magilton, a former team mate at Portman Road, had spoken about trying to take him back there on loan but at that time had received nothing positive from Steve Cotterill and that appears to be the case again this week.

It is certainly no surprise this time, McGreal was back in the team on Saturday in place of the suspended Thomas and played superbly for the first forty-five minutes before injury forced him off at half time.

Magilton has again said that he's tried to sign him but admitted that he wouldn't be making the move. “I don't think they want to lose him,” Magilton said. That's right, we don't, and given his form at Palace he's not going to be sat watching quite so often in the forthcoming games.
