No Kilby means no Burnley FC – Stan

Stan - speaks out in support of Barry Kilby
Quite simply Stan said, "Without Barry Kilby there is no Burnley Football Club", pointing out that the club is around now because of the fact that our Chairman has put in over £6 million of his own money.

Stan is the only manager to have worked for Barry Kilby and knows just how things have changed since the boardroom changes during the 1998/99 season. His comments are right but I am somewhat amazed that he has probably felt the need to say it following some comments from Burnley fans since the news of Taylor’s transfer broke at the end of last week.

Some supporters demanded that Kilby spoke up and explained what was happening but when he did some of them then called him a liar. He told us that the deal was worth £500,000 and some even claimed that was wrong, preferring to believe comments from outside the club. Others were even claiming there was a rift between Kilby and Ternent.

Today I read from one fan a suggestion that the Chairman must be buying a holiday home in Bermuda given the money we have brought in from transfers and cup runs whilst another thought that the mention of helping make up the shortfall in season ticket sales was blaming the fans. Those comments are just downright insulting.

The club are very much responsible for the poor season ticket sales. The Chief Executive was warned time and time again last season that supporters were sick to the back teeth of the constant bleating, the constant begging for money but he chose to ignore it, even laughing it off with his "You only have to say no" comments. He also ignored the pleas on the season ticket discount period dates from both inside and outside the club. The club are now suffering from these dreadful mistakes.

But the attacks on the Chairman beggar belief, no one has done more to help move this club forward in the last few years. Times are tough and a number of mistakes have been made and we are now paying for them. Having said that just imagine where this club would have been now had there been no Barry Kilby.

Stan was right to speak out in his defence even though he is disappointed at losing a player, the sad thing is there should never have been any need for him to speak out.
