No go for Orr and Rachubka

Both saw their loan deals come to an end after Saturday’s defeat at Millwall but whilst Alex Ferguson has given permission for Neil Wood to stay on for an extra two months the news from Bobby Robson and Alan Curbishley at Newcastle and Charlton respectively is not so positive.

It cannot be a surprise though and the Newcastle press were reporting their club’s anger at Orr’s inability to get a game at Burnley although ironically he did get a game on Saturday in the absence of both Tony Grant and Richard Chaplow in the central midfield positions.

With Chappy expected to be ruled out for at least two weeks the Liverpool born player could well have been involved in more games but he has returned to St. James’ Park and could now even be off to Rotherham on loan. Stan said on Saturday that he was close to a deal but Newcastle sources always suggested otherwise.

Paul Rachubka hasn’t even got on the pitch but has spent every game as an unused goalkeeper substitute. Maybe his time was near with Stan Ternent yet again having a go at Brian Jensen but Charlton did not send him out to go on the bench and are looking for another club to send him to.

We have just one loan left and in effect we have wasted two with these two signings who have given us just one first team start between them.

Stan has said he is looking to bring in a central defender with his last loan and is also looking at adding a non-contract keeper. But things are beginning to look desperate again and quite honestly with the lack of players we are walking on a very thin tightrope.

The one positive piece of news is that Tony Grant will be able to return tomorrow to replace Orr.
