No game for the Clarets at Crewe

A call to the Alex at around 9:30 confirmed the problems with the news that a 10 o’clock pitch inspection had been arranged with them telling us that there was little hope of the game going ahead.

The news we expected was confirmed at just about 10:15 and that meant a rush of phone calls and text messages to prevent as many Burnley fans as possible from setting off on a wasted journey.

Boundary Clarets were waiting for the news before their coach departed and Central Lancs Clarets had held their coach at the first pick up point in Lancaster to avoid any wasted travel whereas those who had set off earlier were hurriedly turning round having received the news.

It was always going to be a doubt once the bad weather hit the area, they don’t have any undersoil heating and no covers which means the snow fell onto the pitch before freezing.

Maybe it is no bad thing for the Clarets, we’ve had a difficult week with the Robbie Blake fiasco and Crewe are in their best form of the season. It also means we will be fresher when the amateur outfit from the sports shop arrive in town on Tuesday.

Back to today though and at least we haven’t had the farce of three years ago when the game at Rotherham was doubtful and then on before being called off once all the Clarets had got there.
