No drum roll for Turf Moor

No drum in the Longside next season

The choreographed atmosphere has worryingly been growing on our ground over the last few years. It has been said it has become another Whacky Warehouse whilst it has been named Cirque de Turf. It started with the goal music and I warned then it could only get worse, but thankfully the reaction by fans to the drummer idea has forced the club to have a very quick rethink.

Last week they decided they would let the fans vote on whether a drummer was wanted or not. They did the same a couple of years ago with goal music with fans voting a firm no in an official online vote from the club but they've now reintroduced that.

This time we've been told as a listening club they have decided against introducing the drummer after over 82.35% voted against the idea and that was with 935 supporters voting. I would suggest that had all fans been able to vote, and the older supporters would have been the least likely to have had the option in an online poll yet probably the most likely to be against a drummer, then the vote against would have soared above 90%.

I was very relieved when I heard the news. I would have been sat two blocks away from it but even had it been in another stand it would still have been too close. Atmosphere inside a football ground is spontaneous, not pre-organised and certainly not choreographed. This is a battle won, but there will be more ahead if there is to be any chance of getting any real atmosphere back into our ground. That is unless we want it like Norwich where the fans get cues from the PA man and the goal music appears to be almost triggered by the ball crossing the line.

If we've already got the drum then give it to some fool at Ewood, it will go down well there. Maybe Chico could deliver it.
