No Crewe deal for Jones

Crewe made a move last week to take Jones on loan for a month, and all looked to be going ahead although there was a delay. Even our own club confirmed the potential move on Friday with Coyle saying: "Crewe have made an approach to take Steve on loan and it is one we are thinking about over the weekend."

Jones was back on the bench at Coventry but came on for the last few minutes in place of Ade Akinbiyi and played in a central role. He did well in that short cameo and came close to scoring, and it seems to have given our manager a change of mind.

Today he has admitted: "Steve Jones has been in the sixteen for every squad I've selected since I arrived at Burnley, and I thought he played well when on Saturday when he came on and was unlucky not to score. He is part of my plans until I say otherwise."

That just about rules out a Crewe move but strangely their boss Steve Holland has told his fans: "We tried to bring Steve in last week but that didn't prove successful and he was in Burnley's squad on Saturday.

He got on towards the end and we have had reports that he picked up a knee injury. We do not know the full extent of that but that would scupper any possible deal at the moment."
