No big cup tie for Clarets

Many Clarets fans were hoping for a first ever visit to the Stadium of Light but that will have to wait at least one round
Burnley are certain not to be drawn against any of the Premiership clubs who will be taking part in the 2nd round after it was confirmed that the Clarets have been seeded.

There will be 24 ties in the next round and all the Premiership Clubs who are coming into the competition at this stage along with Ipswich Town are seeded with the top eleven winners from this week's 1st round ties. Those top eleven winners have been chosen based on their league position at the end of last season.

This means Burnley's 7th place finish at the end of the 2001/02 season has placed us in the top group of teams. When the draw is made teams from the seeded group will play teams from the non-seeded group with twelve seeded clubs to be drawn at home and twelve away from home.

The ties will be played week commencing 30th September and the groups are as follows:

Seeded: Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Crystal Palace, Derby County, Everton, Gillingham, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Manchester City, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, Preston North End, Sheffield United, Southampton, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion, West Ham United, Wimbledon and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Non-seeded: Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, Bury, Cambridge United, Cardiff City, Cheltenham Town, Chesterfield, Crewe Alexandra, Huddersfield Town, Leyton Orient, Macclesfield Town, Oldham Athletic, Oxford United, Portsmouth, Rotherham United, Rushden & Diamonds, Sheffield Wednesday, Stockport County, Tranmere Rovers, Walsall, Watford, Wigan Athletic, Wrexham and Wycombe Wanderers.

The draw will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday live on Sky Sports 1.
