Nilsson and Smith go at Coventry

Roland Nilsson and Jim Smith both sacked today by Coventry
Coventry City have today sacked both manager Roland Nilsson and his assistant Jim Smith after a season that has been described as not good enough although until the last few games did look as though it would end in the play offs.

Nilsson took over from Gordon Strachan on 10th September and was the first managerial change of the season and initially Nilsson did change things round. They looked anything but promotion material when we visited Highfield Road in November but they rallied in the New Year.

During February and early March they won seven of ten league games and with seven games to go were in fourth place with 65 points. I'm sure nobody at Coventry could have ever thought that Nilsson and his only recently appointed assistant Jim Smith would be on their way by the end of the season at that stage.

However one point from six games since have left them with no hope of reaching the play offs. They are currently eleventh in the table but if they do spoil our day on Sunday could go as high as eighth.

That wasn't good enough for the new Coventry chairman and today the axe fell on Nilsson and Smith. Reserve team coach Trevor Peake will be in charge at the Turf on Sunday with former goalkeeper Steve Ogrizovic assisting him.

Only recently we took on Preston for their first game after David Moyes' departure and back in December we were the visitors to Crystal Palace the day after Trevor Francis took over. Had the game not been postponed on New Year's Day we would have also been the first opponents for Nicky Law at Bradford.

The changes today at Highfield Road should not affect us in any way on Sunday. We know we just have to go out and beat them.
