Nik the Greek is a Palace player

Nik Michopoulos - set to play for Palace against Gillingham tomorrow
Ironically Nik made his Burnley debut against Palace in a Worthington Cup tie back in 2000 when still a non contract player and in fact his last game for the Clarets was also against Palace before he lost his place to Marlon Beresford.

Stan praised him that day and said he was back to his best but despite the manager’s policy of keeping your shirt if you play well he then promptly left him out for the next game once we had Beresford in the squad.

Since then Michopoulos has been on the bench and has not had any sort of game with him not used in any of the reserve games. Also with the club not bothering with the reserve team cup it leaves us without games at that level for a month.

This move again leaves us with just one keeper at the club and with Marlon’s current deal set to run out at the end of next week there is no doubt that the club are going to have to move quickly to ensure we have at least one keeper at the club.

So we will once again be without keeper on the bench today but that’s nothing new to Burnley and in we did this for an entire season when we won promotion from the 2nd Division in 1999/2000.

It does though reflect the current financial situation at Turf Moor with both Johnrose and Michopoulos having moved out this week. Certainly Stan made it clear he wanted to keep Johnrose but added that he would have to clear it with the Chairman first. It looks as though the finances didn’t stretch to keeping him for a further month and have now forced us into giving one of our rivals a helping hand.
