Nik the Greek goes Greek

He was recently linked with a move to Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia and his move there has now been confirmed after he turned down the English offers, with one believed to have come from Crystal Palace, because the money wasn’t good enough.

Instead he has chosen to drop down to the level of Cypriot football but will in doing so get the opportunity to return to European competition. He has committed to Omonia for a year before taking up his fire fighters role and they, having won the league in Cyprus, will be featuring in the Champions League.

He won’t have long to wait either and they play the home leg of their qualifying round match on Wednesday of next week with Irtysh Pavlodar, champions of Kazakhstan, to be held in the Cypriot capital.

It won’t be the first time he has played in European competition and in the 1997/98 season he was in the PAOK Salonika side that knocked Arsenal out of the UEFA Cup.

The match next week will be his first game since he left Burnley, he will be going from throwing one in against Sheffield Wednesday to the Champions League – and getting paid more than he would have done in England.
