News on ex-Clarets

Brian Reid after Blacpool's play off success
And we didn’t have to look any further for a couple of ex-Clarets finding the net either with two former Burnley players scoring in the same game.

Since Earl arrived at Bower Field things have certainly taken a turn for the better for David Miller’s team. The first seven games were all won before last Saturday’s 2-2 home draw against Bradford Park Avenue.

The other Stalybridge scorer was Phil Eastwood (both he and Earl scored in the 2-0 FA Trophy win against Rothwell Town) who is on a good run at the moment and has scored. He as scored ten goals in the last ten games.

It didn’t stop there though and one of the Bradford scorers was Robbie Painter, a Jimmy Mullen signing for the Clarets from Maidstone in 1992. Painter joined the West Yorkshire club in the summer having spent a season with Gateshead.

It wasn’t good news for one former Burnley player in the Football League today though with news that central defender Brian Reid has been released by Blackpool after injury problems.

Reid has been able to play just one match this season after being at Bloomfield Road for over two years and played a total of 69 games for the Seasiders, leading them to a play off success at the Millennium Stadium in 2001.

Blackpool Chairman Karl Oysten said today, "We have released Brian from his contract, he has been a model professional for us and we wish him well. The manager is always looking to strengthen the squad and with Brian being released, it gives him a chance to bring someone else in."
