Newman plays in Malta

He wasn't named as a substitute either and there was no sign of him at an almost spring like Gawthorpe as the youth team won 3-0.

The mystery has now been solved, Liam was out in Malta with Brian Flynn's Wales Under-17 squad. They were playing a friendly against them in Ta'Qali, one of two they are playing, ahead of the UEFA qualifiers later in March.

He didn't start but came on as a substitute in the second half as the Welsh ran out easy 4-1 winners.

Liam will be hoping to get a start in the second of the two friendlies, which will be played this afternoon against the same opposition. And then he'll be heading for Turkey for the UEFA Elite Qualifiers at the end of the month.

It's great news for Burnley Football Club and in particular for our youth development team to see players pulling on their national shirts. Last week it was Alex MacDonald and this week Liam Newman. Well done to both of them.
