Newcastle's McClen in Turf Moor link

Given that chairman Barry Kilby admitted last week that the Robbie Blake signing had stretched us it is pretty fair to suggest that the cheque book could remain closed in the short term as the Clarets crack on with the players already at the club. Stan did say a couple of weeks ago that he would like to bring in three or four new players he did say that it would be over the next few months and that would take in the summer.

We have though been linked with Newcastle's 22 year-old midfielder Jamie McClen who has struggled to make an impact with the Magpies, his home town club, although he has made some first team appearances recently.

He was brought in for the FA Cup tie at Peterborough and put them 2-0 up just before half time in a game they eventually won 4-2. It was his first ever first team goal. In the two league games since, an away win at Spurs and a home win against Bolton, he has retained his place in the starting line up.

He spent two months on loan at Motherwell during last season but only started one game for them, making two other appearances as sub. With Newcastle constantly strengthening their squad, only yesterday Nottingham Forest's Jermaine Jenus arrived for £5 million, it is believed that Bobby Robson wouldn't stand in his way if an offer came in for him.

Whether he is a target or not I certainly wouldn't expect any move for him in the immediate future but he could be one of the players Stan might want to bring in during the summer.
