New referee for Turf Moor

Sutton joined the League at the beginning of last season, his first game coming on the opening day of that season, a League Two clash between Stockport and Mansfield at Edgeley Park. There were just a couple of yellow cards that day but a week later he waved his red card for the first time, sending off Rochdale's Neil Brisco in a 1-1 home draw against Cheltenham.

There were six red cards in all and his booking count was just about two per game. So far this season there have been no red cards in his six games to date with ten yellow cards, five each going to home and away players.

Tonight will be just his second game at this level, he previously refereed Luton's 2-2 draw with Stoke at Kenilworth Road on the third Saturday of the season, a game that saw Michael Duberry and Vincent Pericard receive yellow cards.

I've no comment on this referee, I've never seen him either live or on television, and the only thing I can say with some confidence is that he is usually not a card happy official

The assistant referees tonight are Craig Barker (Yorkshire) and Peter Quinn (Cleveland) whilst the fourth official duties will be carried out by Andrew Smith (Yorkshire).
