New men in squad

Tony Grant - expected to play
The good news for the Clarets ahead of today’s game at the B&BPFLPFVP Stadium is that Tony Grant will play. He would not have made it for the Franchise game last week but has resumed training after being substituted at Forest with a knee injury.

It is believed that he has torn a cartilage but will play on before having it repaired at the end of the season.

Lee Roche was back in the squad last week after a hamstring injury whilst Luke Chadwick returns after missing the Forest game with tonsillitis. That is a further boost for Stan as he looks to have as many players available to him as possible for this vital run in.

There are a whole host of line ups Stan could go for but I suspect he could well name the side that started the 1-1 draw at Forest and that is:

Brian Jensen, Dean West, David May, Graham Branch, Mo Camara, Glen Little, Richard Chaplow, Tony Grant, Neil Wood, Robbie Blake, Ian Moore.

With Paul Scott and Ryan Townsend unlikely to be considered again for the subs bench, other than in an emergency, it would leave the following players fighting for one of the five places.

Nathan Abbey, Lee Roche, Mark McGregor, Paul Weller, Lenny Johnrose, Luke Chadwick, Alan Moore, Dele Adebola.

Bryan Robson’s first dilemma is who to play in goal. Clint Davies is currently in possession of the keeper’s jersey but both Mark Paston and Alan Combe are available again today. Combe has just completed a five-match ban after his altercation with the referee at Gillingham.

The BRBC board were so appalled at his actions that they refunded the ticket money to all the travelling fans from the money they received after fining the player. At the same time manager Bryan Robson was appealing against the red card.

David Wetherall and Danny Cadamarteri also return to the squad after recent injuries. Cadamarteri was one of the two players sent off last season, along with Mark Bower who is also in today’s squad, in a match that ended in uproar with the Burnley fans hurling insults at the players as they threw two points away show boating.

There will be one enforced change in the side with midfielder Paul Evans having been transferred to Nottingham Forest this week.

BRBC will select from: Clint Davies, Alan Combe, Mark Paston, Peter Atherton, Wayne Jacobs, Mark Bower, Lewis Emanuel, Paul Heckingbottom, Nicky Summerbee, Tom Kearney, Paul Evans, Dean Windass, Michael Branch, Rob Wolleaston, David Wetherall, Danny Cadamarteri, Ben Muirhead, Gareth Edds, Danny Forrest.
