New manager – now a new captain

New captain Robbie Blake in pre-season training
There has been much debate but the captain’s armband has been handed to a player who had hardly figured in the discussions – last season’s leading goalscorer Robbie Blake.

The top money was going on new signing John McGreal whilst others thought it could still be awaiting another new signing and even Richard Chaplow came into the running after leading the team out on Saturday in his home town.

But Cotterill has handed it to Blake and paid him a glowing tribute in doing so. On making the appointment the manager told the official site, “Robbie has come back for pre-season leaner and fitter than ever before. He looks hungry and wants to do well, he is a fantastic, top player and his attitude in pre-season has been first class.

“We all know about his skill and ability, but his industry in training has been excellent too. He is a good talisman for the Club and I feel the best man for the job.”

Praise indeed for Burnley’s star player last season who will lead the side out for the first time when we play Dundee United this week.
