New kit gets the thumbs up

Last Updated : 22-May-2009 by

Back in August of last year I launched a campaign/appeal for the club to consider having kits that were a replica of the 1959/60 kits to recognise the fiftieth anniversary of us becoming Champions of England for a second time.

At the time the idea met with a positive response given the emails received at Clarets Mad. I'd taken the opportunity to discuss it with Barry Kilby when we were in Belfast for the Glentoran friendly and it sort of went from there.

In November he confirmed to me that we were going ahead with it and eventually almost two weeks ago we saw the final product. For me personally it is just as good as I could have ever hoped and I asked for your comments.

We've not received as many as we might have otherwise done with Wembley fever gripping most Burnley fans but those we did receive, which we did say we would publish last week, as you will see have been very positive.

Thanks for your responses, and here they are a week later than planned.

Neil Proctor: Personally, I would buy myself both home and away shirts even if one were yellow...! What floats my boat here though is the socks. A pair for my next girlfriend (yes I am single....I keep wearing footy tops) to wear pulled up high, and a third one on her as a boob-tube.......I would cut the toe section off to expose the head if she is a looker....otherwise the bag won't be needed). Be quick buying the socks ...they will go FAST!!!!!!

Garry Pickles: I love the new kits. One question did we have an away kit back in the 60's. Is this away the same as the kit we had back then? Using the old badge is great but it provides another question will this new badge only be used for 1 year and will we revert back to the current badge?

Ian, Vancouver Canada: I think they look fantastic! I was a bit dubious about the hooped socks after seeing Spurs this season, but in claret & blue they look great, even better when playing against Man. Utd. next season in the Prem.

Ian MacKenzie: Pure Class!! The home kit looks great, especially without the Errea logo.

Brian O'Grady: Great, love the new kit, glad to see we have gone back to our traditional strip, only shame is that we have to have sponsors on the shirt.

Ruth Murray: Fantastic new kit - looks just the job for the 50th celebrations, lets hope and trust in our lads to be wearing in the to flight next year.

Peter Eustace: I have not bought a Burnley shirt for years, however, this will soon change. I love the new home shirt and will be buying one for sure.

Peter Hitchen: Top quality strip and I predict it will be the biggest selling kit the club have ever marketed.

David Scott: The shirts for next season are brilliant. They will revive great memories at a time when we are doing so well in this century. I was fortunate to be a lad watching that glorious season and will never forget two great goals near the end of the season when we beat Tottenham 2-0 at the Turf in a game which convinced my dad we could win the title. I think the scorers were Pointer and Connelly. I hope the kit inspires the current Clarets to great heights.

Philip Wilcock: Fantastic, especially the badge. Nice to see the old County Borough Coat of Arms on the shirt. Gives a sense of unity with club and town that was somewhat missing from recent shirts Let's hope it gives the current team the same luck as their 1960s counterparts.

Andy: A great kit. Let's just hope they're gracing the Premiership next season. How fitting that would be.

derbyclaret: Excellent, looks just as good as when we won it! The hooped socks are wonderful!

Beegs: The home kit looks the business!!!!

Trevor: Do like the new shirts who are the sponsors though?

Andy Mayor: I love them, absolutely LOVE them, the hooped socks are something I've yearned for for years so for me both kits are fantastic. Let's just pray we're wearing them in the Premier League.

Pete Kennedy: I began watching the Clarets as they took to field as Champions. They wore the original strip the club has adopted for next year. One significant fact was their shorts were made in a shiny silk material! Also, the away white was much loved by us whenever we saw it. it was very understated, cool the kids nowadays would say.

Robert Benson: The early Sixties was a great time to be a Claret - and now is a great time to be a Claret - I for one would love to see this great Burnley team in the classic Claret & Blue. Come ON you Clarets!
