New face for the Clarets

Berkshire based official Iain Williamson will be taking charge of his first Burnley game tomorrow, in fact he will be refereeing a First Division match for the first time.

He is in just his second season on the league list and has previously refereed only in the lower two divisions although he was at Vicarage Road for Watford’s Carling Cup tie against Bournemouth back in August.

He does though appear to be a reasonably sensible referee and so far this season in nine games has handed out 27 yellow cards but to date has kept his red card firmly in his pocket.

The yellow cards are even handed out faily evenly with 13 to home team players and 14 to away team players. However twice this season he has had six card games and on both occasions the north west based away teams, Oldham and Blackpool, have picked up five of them.

Last season, his first in the league, saw him take charge of 15 games in which he gave out 53 yellow cards and 4 red cards. Two of those red cards came in one incident, two Bristol City players sent off at Chesterfield.

He certainly doesn’t go over the top with his cards but this will be our first chance to check him out.
