New defender signs in

Today 19 year-old defender James McEveley has signed in on a three month loan deal and that will give Stan more options at the back. McEveley is Liverpool born but has been with our local rivals throughout his short career to date having come through the Academy.

McEveley is a left sided central defender but can play left back and has done so for Blackburn Rovers. But it is in the centre of defence where Stan is expected to play him at Burnley.

He made his first team debut in the Worthington Cup last season, firstly as a substitute coming on for Marc Sebastian Pelzer against Walsall but then in the next round starting against Rotherham.

Three days after that he made his Premiership bow at Bolton and he went on to make nine Premiership appearances by the end of last season, all of them starts. To add to that he has also been capped at England Under-21 level and is being tipped to go all the way to the full national side.

He is certainly very highly rated by Graeme Souness and there would be no thoughts of the deal being made permanent but with his injury problems easing, and the form of Andy Todd since he went back, his first team opportunities are somewhat limited at the moment.

McEveley will go into our squad for the home game against Coventry on Saturday.
