New deal for McCann

McCann, like Lafferty, was already under contract until the end of the 2008/09 season and he too has extended his Turf Moor stay by one year with this new deal, and it is a deal that has pleased manager Steve Cotterill.
"As I said last week, following the new deals for Kyle Lafferty and Michael Duff, we are delighted that Chris has signed an extended contract. I am delighted at his progress and I think he has improved again and to have two 19-year-olds in the team is terrific," he said.

Cotterill went on to say how proud he is of the strides both Chris and Kyle have taken this season, adding: "Over the season they will have ups and downs. Young players like Chris will suffer lows one moment, such as losing his marker at QPR and then within days having the highs of scoring a goal such as the one at Wolves.

"That is what happens when you have young players in the team. There is a sufferance period, not only for them but for us as a club. You need to suffer those times to bring your players through and I think both Chris and Kyle have been excellent."

Chris McCann will become the fifth player to sign a deal through to the end of the 2009/10 season along with Duff, Lafferty, Steve Caldwell and Joey Gudjonsson.
