New deal for Cotterill

The chairman was asked about it when the shareholders met in November and he said that talks had begun on a new deal, but a lot has happened since then, with Ade Akinbiyi leaving, the Leicester approach and the current disappointing run of form.

It has led to speculation and, at times, wild rumour, but at no point has the manager ever said he wanted to leave and more than once has stressed his desire to remain with the Clarets. Just last week he said that the contract was even closer to being agreed, that there was just one thing he wasn’t happy with, but added that he would sign it within five minutes if that could be ironed out.

It has, and today Steve will sign a new contract that will see him remain as Burnley manager for another four seasons beyond this one. The deal will be signed at lunchtime today.
