New deal for Branchy

Branchy was the only player whose contract expired this summer but manager Steve Cotterill has moved to extend his stay at Turf Moor for another season at least, and that will take his Burnley career beyond eight years since he first signed in December 1998.

He recently joined the small group of players who have played over 250 league games for the club and he will now be looking to take that beyond 300 with the signing of his new deal, a regular place in the side next season could well see him reach that target.

Not for the first time he collected a number of Player of the Year awards this season and is probably more popular now than at any time in his Burnley career and judging from the comments at this week's Player of the Year Evening, this will be very welcome news.

On signing his new contract, Branchy said, "I am just really happy to get the contract signed again. The boss has been brilliant to be honest. He is one of the best managers around, and for him to want me around for another year is great for me personally.

"I am looking forward to it, the legs might not be what they were ten years ago, but I still feel that I have something to offer, and my form has been good this season. I think next year will be a good one for the team.

"There's not better thing than to be appreciated by the people who support you and it hits home exactly how luck I am to be at this club."

Branch will be one of a number of players whose contracts come to an end in a year's time - the others are Duane Courtney, Danny Coyne, Michael Duff, Micah Hyde, Danny Karbassiyoon, John McGreal, Gifton Noel-Williams and Frank Sinclair.
