Moss has been gathering cards

Last updated : 27 September 2014 By Tony Scholes

All his four games so far have been in the Premier League and in those games there have been a total of 18 yellow cards and three red cards.

He dismissed Crystal Palace's Jason Puncheon just before Arsenal got the winner against them at the end of their opening day of the season game. In his next game he sent off Hull's James Chester in a 1-1 home draw against Stoke and last time out in was Swansea's Wilfried Bony who saw red in their 1-0 home defeat against Southampton.

Two home players sent off, but the yellow card count is more Moss like with just five of them having gone to home team players and 13 to away team players.

Red cards have not been absent in his Burnley games either. Five years ago he sent off Richard Eckersley in a Carling Cup tie at Hartlepool. I thought that one was harsh but his dismissal of Marvin Bartley at Forest in the 2010/11 season was just downright wrong.

We lost that game 2-0 and much was down to Moss and how he allowed himself to be bullied by the Forest players demanding a red card whilst the odious Little Billy was dancing along the touchline waving an imaginary card.

Add that to an awful performance from him at Middlesbrough in 2010 and you get the picture that this referee seriously concerns me when we are the away team. Having said that, the away games have been in the past. The Forest game was the last occasion and his only Burnley game since was our season opener against Bolton over two years ago.

He's certainly considered one of our top referees now. He refereed only four more Football League games in 2012/13 after that Bolton game and last season only six of his 35 games were at Football League level, and it is worth nothing that he averaged just three yellow cards per game last season and in 35 games there were only four red cards.

He is currently in 15th place in the Premier League RATE THE REF Table with a rating of 50.83 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Simon Long (Conrwall) and Andy Halliday (North Yorkshire). The fourth official is Mike Jones (Cheshire) whose last Burnley game was our 0-0 draw at Wigan in December of last year.
