More success for fans team

After an opening day 8-0 win over Chester, our last two games have seen fantastic results against two of the league's top sides. Last Saturday saw a superbly contested 2-2 draw with a physical Hull side. Burnley goals in that game came from Ric Davies and Tom Henderson who dedicated the goal to his ill Grandma.

This morning, Bury A stopped off at Towneley on their way to their 'big' team's game at Rochdale. After a slow start on our part, we began to get a foot in the game after around five or ten minutes and were able to carve out a number of good chances. After coming close once or twice, we finally broke the deadlock mid-way through the first half. A beautifully weighted ball from Ric was met by an onrushing Hendy who made no mistake in slotting past the keeper.

He could have made it two minutes later, when his touch in front of goal just clipped the crossbar. It could be argued that he hit it too well on that occasion, but a lead at the break was certainly a great boost to our confidence and we came out for the second half determined to hold on for the three points.

We continued to put pressure on the visitors, and Hendy had another great chance to add a second, but it wasn't to be. We knew that the second goal was so important and set out to ensure we got it. When it finally came, it was Ric that had the ball in the back of the net, with a powerful effort following more good work from Hendy.

As well as creating so many chances in attack, we were superb at the back also and Bury were limited to just one or two real chances, the best being a one-on-one with goalkeeper Will O'Neill who did just about enough to put the attacker off who hit his shot wide.

We had the ball in the back if the net again with a couple of minutes to go, but Leon's header was ruled out by the referee who awarded Bury a free-kick. We did, however, complete the scoring in the last minute, when Nathan Holland netted a long range effort.

So two brilliant results against two of the best teams in the league has given us a fantastic start to the season, and we are expecting to remain in 3rd place in the table, just one point behind leaders Preston.
