More nominations for Dyche and Shackell

It's usually the case that the four manager nominees are from the four clubs who have won the most points during the calendar month but on this occasion this is certainly not the case. Our local rivals Blackburn actually led the April table with 15 points from 7 games whilst Derby were behind them on goal difference having played one game fewer.

It's a surprise therefore that neither Gary Bowyer nor Steve McClaren have received nominations, but Nigel Pearson has having won Leicester four points during the month.

Four clubs collected 13 points during April. Two of them, Brighton and Burnley, have seen their managers nominated, Oscar Garcia and, of course, Dyche. The other two clubs on 13 points were Bolton and Charlton although Charlton did play nine games, at least two more than any other club.

Millwall's Ian Holloway makes up the four having secured 12 points in their six games as they continue their fight to avoid relegation.

Of Dyche, the Football League confirmed his nomination by reporting: "April was perhaps his most impressive month of a stellar season. Dyche had to manage without influential players, instil belief in their replacements and stay calm as his side gained 13 points from six games to clinch automatic promotion.

The three players nominated alongside Shackell for the player award are Nicky Bailey (Millwall), Adam Bogdan (Bolton) and Rudy Gestede (Blackburn).

Again, in confirming Shackell's nomination, the Football League said: "Shackell has been ever-present for Burnley all season and stood tall again as the Clarets kept four clean sheets in six games to clinch promotion.

"A commanding presence as captain when opponents bombarded the box, he was immense in the 1-0 win at Blackpool."

Dyche has previously won two monthly awards, for September and October, and strikers Danny Ings (October) and Sam Vokes (February) have won the monthly awards.

It would cap a brilliant season if either Dyche or Shackell, and preferably both, could add to that tally.
