Last night though he made his Under-19 debut in a 1-1 draw against old international rivals Germany in Celle – and he did well.
England took the lead just a few minutes before half time and he player a major part in it. It all started with a cross from the left from Tottenham’s Phil Ifill which went beyond the far post. Chappy was on hand to delicately knock it back for Lee Holmes of Derby County to finish in spectacular fashion.
The Germans equalised as England, Sven like, threw on a number of substitutes and Richard himself was withdrawn with just six minutes to go, being replaced by Sunderland’s Grant Leadbitter.
I would have thought that there were more Burnley people watching the game on television last night than would normally watch an Under-19 international.
Again well done Chappy.
