Mixed fortunes for Burnley internationals

Joey Gudjonsson - in the Iceland side beaten by Latvia
Today's was a big game for them, but with Gary Naysmith available again Alexander was relegated to the bench. He wasn't able to get on to earn his 32nd cap but enjoyed another good day at Hampden with Scotland ensuring they stayed top of the group with an exciting 3-1 win over Ukraine.

It leaves them with two games left, this Wednesday in Georgia followed by a home game against Italy next month. If they can beat Italy they go through, not matter what the result in Tbilisi in four days time.

Joey Gudjonsson was in the Iceland team when they played Latvia in Reykjavik, but it wasn't the best of days for the Icelandics who fell to a 4-2 defeat despite having taken an early lead through Barcelona striker Eidar Gudjohnsen. By the time he'd added their second early in the second half the Latvians had already netted four times.

There was a return to international action for one former Claret. Danny Coyne made his first appearance for Wales since leaving Turf Moor at the end of last season, brought into the side when young Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey was forced to drop out.

The Welsh suffered from another disappointing result, they lost 3-1 to Cyprus in Nicosia and this having led at half time with a goal from West Ham's James Collins.

Our two internationals, Alexander and Gudjonsson, are involved again this Wednesday and will be joined by Steve Jones and Kyle Lafferty who are in the Northern Ireland squad for their game in Stockholm against Sweden.
