Milton Keynes move to London

They intended moving immediately and into the massive 4,000 capacity National Hockey Stadium. It does not meet the necessary requirement although would clearly be big enough to house the numbers that would want to go there and support Koppel's franchise team.

In a short statement the former South London club said,

"Wimbledon Football Club will commence the 2002/2003 season at Selhurst Park, playing there for the foreseeable future.

It still remains the Club's intention to move to Milton Keynes as soon as possible."

So they remain in London for now as the Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association again make a plea to football supporters to show that they will not accept franchising and their spokesman Simon Wheeler told Clarets Mad today,

"In a major setback for Wimbledon F.C's proposed move to Milton Keynes, Wimbledon Football Club today announced that they will be playing at Selhurst Park next season".

"The Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association calls upon ALL supporters to boycott fixtures at Selhurst Park, involving Wimbledon Football Club LTD. The football community now has an opportunity to hit home the message that football franchising is not acceptable in the English game, and to cause a detrimental effect on the revenues of Wimbledon F.C".

"We are in the process of formulating plans for a law abiding peaceful protest on the
opening game of the season, involving any supporter that wishes to demonstrate contempt at Charles Koppel and the precedent that he has set through football franchising". More details to follow
