The County Durham based referee took charge of his first Football League game on the opening day of this season in the 3rd Division fixture between Huddersfield Town and Cambridge United at the McAlpine Stadium.

Unlike some of the newer officials he has gone about his business much more quietly and has to date been able to avoid the sort of headlines reserved for the likes of Phil Prosser and Trevor Kettle.

In 17 games to date this season he has given out a total of 53 yellow cards of which 24 have gone to home team players and 29 to away team players. To add to that there have been three red cards all going the way of the visitors.

There are of course no previous Burnley games to report, he takes charge of both Burnley and West Brom for the first time.

He will be assisted by John Carter from Tyne & Wear and Keith Lawson from Lincolnshire.
