Fredrik Ulvestad was signed eventually but, after a good pre-season, has been ruled out since with an ankle injury, and then came the signing of Joey Barton who came on as a substitute for his Burnley debut in the home defeat against Reading.
I don't think it was a surprise to anyone that he started at Rotherham with Scott Arfield moving back into a wide position and it was the central midfield pair of Barton and David Jones who received the accolades following our 2-1 in.
So it's not a surprise either that Barton and Jones battled it out in the man of the match vote and the player ratings with them winning one each and finishing second in the other.
Barton it was who won the man of the match with a 44.3% share of the vote, ahead of Jones who took second place with 27.9%. Michael Duff came third with 7.1% of the vote with a 6.8% share winning fourth place for Sam Vokes who scored the winning goal.
In the ratings it was Jones on top, just. His rating of 8.22 out of 10 was high enough to beat the 8.16 achieved by Barton. Andre Gray, who got the opening goal, was third with 7.80 and Vokes again came fourth with a rating of 7.49 out of 10.
Both Barton and Jones win eight points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year with all of Duff, Gray and Jones picking up two points.
With Tendayi Darikwa and Michael Keane some distance in front, it's made little difference to the top of the table with third place Duff still 18 points behind Keane.
The next vote will be for the Bolton game a week on Saturday. The result of both the vote and the ratings for the Rotherham game are below, followed by the current player of the year table.
