Midfielders chosen

Paul Cook wins midfield place alongside John Deary
The first selection of midfielders certainly gave me my most difficult choice yet with both John Deary and Kevin Ball on the list. Deary was surely Frank Casper's best ever signing and he was a regular for over five years until Jimmy Mullen somewhat surprisingly let him go to Rochdale. Bally has just given us two superb seasons and I am sure would have still been at the Turf had the television deal not collapsed.

Deary was in front all the way though and in the end collected just over half the vote with 51.8% with Bally in second place with 30.6%. The rest were never in it and Andy Farrell came third with 7.5% followed by Warren Joyce 5.4%, Mark Ford 2.8% and last was Lenny Johnrose with just 2.1%.

If that was a tough battle the following week proved more so as the lead constantly switched between Paul Cook and Adrian Randall over the voting period. In a week that saw more votes cast than any other it was Cooky in the end who secured a place in the team with 44.2% with Randall right behind with 43.3%. It was close enough to have forced a recount had it been a General Election.

Micky Mellon, 5.5%, was third and was followed by Steve Thompson 3.6%, Damian Matthew 1.9%, Nigel Gleghorn 1.0% and Alan Harper 0.5%.

There are just two places up for grabs now, the two strikers. We have again split them into two groups and you can choose the first of them this week, see the voting poll at the top right of the front page.

The team so far is:

Marlon Beresford

Dean West

Steve Davis

Arthur Gnohere

Lee Briscoe

Glen Little

John Deary

Paul Cook

David Eyres
