Mid table for the Clarets

Last updated : 05 August 2002 By Tony Scholes

The choices we gave you were chosen because they are exactly the same choices we gave you just a year ago. We have to say that it appears that our expectations have lowered somewhat in the past twelve months.

A year ago over 13% of you thought we would go up automatically but this year that optimism has dropped with just 5.4% of the same opinion. It is the same with the play offs where just 20% of you think we will finish this time round against over 39% last year.

More of you think we will be relegated, in fact over 5% of you do, but over half of you now think we will finish in mid table. I sincerely hope this 5% are wrong and looking down the list of other clubs in the division I do find it very difficult to believe that there won’t be at least three of them below us by next May.

Over the last three years or so we have exceeded out expectations but you have certainly lowered them now because of the lack of signings with the television money not forthcoming. It is the same for just about every club in the division though and so most of the other clubs are all badly affected.

This week we ask you to consider which side you think is the most likely to win promotion this season from the eight clubs we feel are the best candidates. The poll will run until midnight on Thursday and we will take a look at the results on Friday.
