Mellon returns

Mellon's Burnley career was not a long one, just over two years, but it was during a significant period when the Clarets won promotion and of course he scored the vital equalising goal at Scunthorpe on the last day of the season as promotion was clinched.

After signing for the Clarets in January 1999 from Tranmere for £350,000 he made an excellent debut at Bristol Rovers, but just over two years later after coming on as a sub for Kevin Ball in a home win against Huddersfield he returned to Prenton Park on a free transfer.

He ended his league career with Kidderminster Harriers but has more recently returned to Burnley and is one of our centre of excellence coaches, part of the vital team that is helping the club to produce our own young players.

But tomorrow he's back on the pitch and will be the first of our half time draw guests this season. I'm sure many of us will be recalling that goal at Glanford Park just over seven years ago.
