Megson gets Leicester job

It's nothing new, it happened at Portsmouth until he finally landed 'Arry, and even then he managed to lose him and ended up with such top managers as Velimir Zajec and the inspirational Alain Perrin.

Megson is the latest man at the Crisp Bowl and will be hoping to get more games in charge than the last two. Worthington got five games which was one more than his successor Martin Allen. The new man has signed a deal until the end of the 2009/10 season but that won't count for much if Milan decides next month that he's not the right man.

Nottingham Forest were his last club, and he left there in February of last year after a difficult thirteen months at the City Ground. Prior to that he's managed Norwich, Blackpool, Stockport, Stoke and West Brom and twice he won promotion to the Premiership with the Baggies.

He has pipped the enigmatic Sinister One Glenn Roeder to the job at Leicester and has admitted that he might not be a popular appointment. He said: "I know I am not going to be welcomed with open arms by everyone. I have to prove myself and I hope I can do the same job at Leicester that I did at West Brom. We took West Brom from second bottom up into the Premiership.

"Yes, we went down which was no surprise on an £8million wage bill, when the next lowest was £17million, but I think I am the only manager to take a team straight back up automatically. So my record at this level, in terms of promotion, is probably better than anyone else's in the last 10 years. Yet I find myself having to defend myself for what went on at Forest."

Mandaric added: "I think Gary has the experience and ability to do the job for us. He is a straight, honest guy who impressed me in the talks we had. You can look him straight in the eye and what you see is what you get, a strong personality who can take us forward. I didn't want to wait too long for more of the season to pass by, and I hope the fans appreciate my decision and that they will give him their full support."

Frank Burrows, Megson's assistant from West Brom, will join him at Leicester as will former Leicester defender Gerry Taggart although their roles are to be confirmed.
