Mark McGregor in action for Blackpool
Mark McGregor signed for the Clarets in the summer of 2001 but had to wait until March in the following year before getting onto the pitch in a league match when he deputised for the suspended Dean West at Stockport.

Many Burnley fans were surprised to see him released at the end of last season and even more so to see a lack of interest in him from elsewhere for some time. But that changed when he was invited to join Blackpool’s pre-season tour to Northern Ireland by their new manager Colin Hendry.

Macca impressed in all the matches and last week agreed to and signed a one year deal with the Seasiders.

It is hard to imagine but there is now a possibility that Paul Gascoigne may not have played his last game in the Football League. Worse for wear he was placed on the bench for our make or break match against Coventry in May 2002 and came on as a late sub as we chased a goal that would have got us into the play offs.

There’s been nothing since but at the end of last week he was appointed player/coach at League Two club Boston United. Nothing is ever simple and after agreeing to the move he was rushed to hospital with food poisoning.

However, he is expected to be ready to start this week and could be in the squad for their opening league game.
