McGreal to make Ipswich move permanent

John McGreal
Johnny Mac left the Turf a year ago at the end of his contract and was initially linked with Tranmere his first club. However, he'd decided to move back to Suffolk but failed to win a deal at Colchester after a trial.

Kevin Blackwell did offer him a deal at Luton but McGreal decided against that and started to pursue a coaching career. He's now got his 'B' licence and after coaching at Ipswich throughout last season he's now expected to be named reserve team coach in place of Steve Greaves.

It was Ipswich that we signed him from after he'd spent five years at Portman Road. Two of those years were in the Premiership and in total McGreal made 150 appearances for the Tractor Boys.

His appointment is expected to be confirmed by the club this week.
