It was in the 2003/04 season that McEveley joined the Clarets, the second player that season to make the short journey from Ewood Park to Turf Moor in a short term move.

Andy Todd had been with us earlier in the season and had done well, but McEveley didn't get the opportunity and made just four league appearances all from the bench before getting his first start in the cup tie at Mansfield where he suffered a serious knee injury.

He was transferred to Derby in 2007 for a seven figure sum as Billy Davies spent big to get the side promoted but he was released by current boss Nigel Clough at the end of last season.

His search for a new club has ended with a move to Oakwell. He's signed a two year deal with Barnsley.

"Jay had offers from other clubs but has chosen to join us and I am delighted with that," Barnsley boss Mark Robins said.

"He is a player with a lot of Championship and Premier League experience and has won international honours for Scotland.

"Jay is a great addition to our squad; he is still only 25 but is very ambitious and wants to improve."
