There were a choice of twelve goals, but in truth it became a two horse race between goals scored four days apart at the beginning of the month. Those were the second in the Carling Cup win against Arsenal and the last in the 3-2 win at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United on the following Saturday.

Those two goals grabbed over 85% of the vote and that left Kevin McDonald's first against Arsenal trailing in third place with just 4.4% of the vote. But his second that night proved to be the winner, not just for the Clarets on the night, but in the poll. It claimed no less than 52.2% of the vote and he joins Chris McCann, Joey Gudjonsson, Chris Eagles and Ade Akinbiyi who have won the previous monthly awards.

Eagles himself was second and his goal, in that inspired personal performance from him at Sheffield, won 33.2% of the vote and will almost certainly be included in the end of season Goal of the Season vote.

The January vote will be available in the next free midweek which could be the week after next if Arsenal beat Cardiff this Monday in their FA Cup replay.
