McCann signs Turf Moor deal

Dublin born Chris is in just his second season at Turf Moor as an apprentice but, along with Kyle Lafferty who signed his first deal last week, was promoted into the first team squad ahead of the new season.

He made his debut as a substitute in the pre-season game at Cheltenham and got his first start in Austria in the draw against SV Wacker Burghausen. But there was better to come for him when he was included in the first team squad at the beginning of the league season.

After sitting on the bench for two games he got his first call in the 4-0 win against Coventry when he came on early in the game as a sub, replacing the injured Wade Elliott, and when he himself came off towards the end he won a standing ovation from the Turf Moor crowd.

His first start came a week late at Watford and in September he came off the bench against Ipswich to score his first goal. He has an eye for goal and loves to shoot from distance but ironically that goal was from a header.

The home win against Leicester saw his last appearance but he’s remained very much part of the first team squad and manager Steve Cotterill has been keen to tie up this and Kyle’s deals. Both are now complete and Chris has a contract that runs beyond those of any of the other members of the squad.

Steve Cotterill said today, “We think that Chris has shown good promise in the last few months and we are pleased that we have got this sorted out. We look forward to him improving as a player during that period.”

Congratulations Chris from all of us at Clarets Mad.
