He's played just one full game since injuring his knee last September against Sunderland, that against Reading in the cup, but in the following game at Bolton was forced off early in the game.

Chris has undergone an extensive rehabilitation programme but that's failed to get him back to full fitness and now the club await the verdict from the specialist to determine whether he can play again this season.

Manager Brian Laws said: "We have got to a point where we have got to make a decision and that's something we will probably know by the end of the week. It doesn't look great at the moment, the fact we are actually sending him to a specialist. There is obviously something that is hindering him."

Laws admitted that he might now need surgery but doesn't believe he's suffered a cruciate ligament injury. "I don't foresee that. He's done too much work for that. There's no way he could get through the work we have put him through," Laws said.
