McCann injury is becoming a real worry

Chris McCann
He was ruled out until January last season, but his comeback lasted just one FA Cup tie at Reading and a few minutes in the Premier League at Bolton before he was out again. A cartilage problem was eventually found and he even made a reserve team substitute appearance before the end of last season.

"He'll be like a new signing," many Burnley fans said with the news that McCann was fit again and ready to play his part in 2010/11 season. It was good to see him back in first team action at Bury and he came through with flying colours.

Then, in the first game in Singapore he came off injured. We were told it was nothing to worry about, it was only a precaution and he could have continued. He didn't continue, nor did he feature in the subsequent two games and once home he hasn't been in the squad for the last two pre-season games.

He's already been rated doubtful for the Forest game next week and after rumours today at Huddersfield that he's suffered another serious knee injury, rumours that are unsubstantiated right now I have to say, Brian Laws has admitted that his situation will have to be assessed.

Laws said: "Chris took a niggle in Singapore and it hasn't quite got to the point we are happy with. At present, he is having treatment and we will hopefully get through this next week. We will wait and see because there is nothing we can say on how long it will be.

"As the weeks go by everyone gets concerned, but we want to make sure we have a quality player on the park so we will look at him over the next few days and hopefully there will be a clearer picture to talk about."
