McCann goal wins monthly award

Chris McCann
The goal came after just over half an hour and brought the Clarets back into the game after we'd gone 2-0 down in the first fifteen minutes. It came after Christian Dailly hit the ball straight into the air. Andy Gray controlled it and laid it off to McCann who skipped between two defenders and placed a right foot shot into the net.

His goal claimed no less than 52.7% of the vote and was a clear winner ahead of my particular favourite, Robbie Blake's header against Norwich from a Wade Elliott cross. Blake's goal netted 25.6% of the vote leaving the other five goals as also rans.

McCann's goal will now go forward to the Goal of the Season competition along with the previous monthly winners, Ade Akinbiyi's late third in the Carling Cup win against Oldham (August), and in September the stoppage time overhead kick equaliser from Clarke Carlisle at Bristol City.

Blake's goal could qualify for the end of season vote as one of the highest second place monthly finishes.

Voting us currently underway for the man of the match against Sheffield United. This will run until the end of tomorrow and will then be replaced with the man of the match vote from tomorrow night's home game against Hull.
