Sixteen players were listed in the poll but only three of them received a significant number of votes with McCann just edging Grezza into first place.

McCann has been with the Clarets for five years now since arriving from Dublin as an apprentice and it was just after the start of his second season at Turf Moor that he went on to make his first team debut, coming on as an early substitute for the injured Wade Elliott.

He's since gone on to make over 160 first team appearances for the Clarets and has scored 20 goals, the first of which came at QPR in the first game of 2006.

In the voting poll for the first central midfielder he won 35.8% of the vote after an almighty battle with Alexander who was just behind with 32.8%. Only Kevin Ball of the remaining players picked up any significant amount of the vote with 12.7%.

Chris therefore becomes the eighth player to win a place in the team and we now look for the final place in midfield. The vote is already underway and will run until the end of Monday after which we will turn out attention to the two forward positions.

Over 10,000 votes have been cast for those first eight positions and as always the vote is on the front page of the site.
