Martin Paterson - current leader in the Player of the Season table
McCann turned in probably his best ever performance for the Clarets and alongside Martin Paterson, who scored the first goal and gave Blackpool problems all night, they fought tooth and nail in both the Man of the Match Poll and also the Player Ratings thread on the message board.

It was McCann who came out on top for Man of the Match, polling 31.1% of the vote, but that was just four percent ahead of Paterson who polled 27.1%. Behind them, McCann's midfield partner Kevin McDonald took third place with 16.2% of the vote.

In the player ratings it was the same top two but the other away round. This time Paterson came out on top with a rating of 8.69 out of 10, this recording the highest rating yet for a player this season.

McCann came second, and his rating was 8.51, whilst in third place was Graham Alexander who followed up his man of the match performance at Nottingham Forest with another outstanding display in the midfield. He scored a rating of 8.26 out of 10.

This all leaves Paterson eight points clear of McCann at the top of the Player of the Season Table after the first eight games of the season. The current table is shown below.

16: Chris McCann
13: Graham Alexander
9: Chris Eagles
8: Kevin McDonald
