Maylett becomes a Swan

The deal will apparently go through tomorrow to bring to an end a frustrating Burnley career that has never really got going. It may well look impressive that he has played a total of 45 leagues for us but on only three occasions did he get a start, twice during the 1998/99 season and once in our last home game, the 7- drubbing against Sheffield Wednesday. He never played a full ninety minutes.

He went to Swansea on loan in March and was expected to remain there for the rest of the season, but Stan pulled him back gave him 45 minutes at Portsmouth and then heavily criticised him and said he hadn’t taken his chance.

With a year left on his contract his Turf Moor future didn’t look rosy and he made it clear that he was keen to return to the Vetch Field and sign for former Claret Brian Flynn.

That will happen tomorrow when he completes the move in what will be a free transfer to bring his Burnley career to an end.
